CHALLENGE:  Developers created application installers not following industry standards and limited testing was performed.  Users and field services manually installed applications when programs were requested.  Administrative privileges need to be removed from all computers in the Credit Centers limiting users from manually installing applications.

RESOLVE:  Create virtual images of Windows 32bit and 64bit operating system for creating and testing application installers.  Implement Flexera AdminStudio to create industry standard installers and track packaging request workflows.  Package all the applications used by the Credit Centers and test application installer deployments with SCCM 2007 and SCCM 2012.  Utilize Active Directory (AD) group membership to offer available deployments through the new SCCM 2012 Application Catalog.   

CHALLENGE:  Upgrading SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 and need (50) SCCM packages recreated and tested in SCCM 2012.  Create installer for multi-component HP Fujitsu Scanner and the Raiser's Edge.  Each product contained a series of applications which must be installed in sequence for a successful installation.  Human error was prevalent since the steps were performed manually and would not always be performed in sequence.

RESOLVE:  Evaluate existing application installers to determine if industry standards were applied.  Recreate installers from the SCCM 2007 packages that did not meet industry standards.  Recreate SCCM 2007 packages within SCCM 2012 utilizing the new Application model and test for successful SCCM deployment and package installation.  Create a suite installer for the HP Fujitsu Scanner which included (ISIS Driver, Software Operation Panel, Error Recovery Guide, Kofx VRS, ILE workstation, ILE router) and the Raiser's Edge which included (Visual Basic for Applications, Crystal Report Runtime, Bullzip PDF Printer, Raiser's Edge w/patch).  Provide workflow reporting for each package request submitted and tested as successful.

CHALLENGE:  Upgrade Windows 2000 to Windows XP and provide MSI application installers for 200 application in company's portfolio.  

RESOLVE:  Conduct discovery to gather installation and testing steps.  Follow internally developed MSI (Microsoft Installer) packaging standards to create and test (200) applications with Wise Package Studio.  Apply custom actions, public and private properties, user profile settings and transforms when applicable.  Track and report packaging request and its workflow status to management.  Provide advice to improve information gathering and packaging procedures.

CHALLENGE:  Create an installer which will include a series of medical applications from Allscripts.  The installation will be performed on Windows 7 32bit and Windows 7 64bit computers.  From time to time certain applications within the suite will need to be updated  The installer will be delivered to various business groups local and remote.  Some of the remote locations have bandwidth limitations.

RESOLVE:  Create a silent installer for a suite of six (6) Allscripts medical applications utilizing Microsoft Installer (MSI) and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) scripting.  This installer leveraged WMI to determine 32bit and 64bit operating systems.  Each components installation is tracked and validated for success.  Updates are applied per component and rolled up into an updated suite installer. This component-based approach simplifies the update process and accelerates the time to delivery.  To address limited bandwidth in certain remote locations a reduced payload was utilized by creating an "update-only" suite installer in addition to the "full" suite installer.
